The Boston Massacre

Seven Long Months has faded quite away

Since INNOCENCE itself became prey to Bloody men.

Was it my Eyes deceiv'd me? did I dream Or did I Clearly see through every scene, Bloody Trickling Down? Doth not the Stings of Conscience prick he sore,

In laying Harmless Youths in Bloody Gore Ye Murderers all.

But now at length your trials they draw near.

Can you expect GOD'S righteous Laws to clear [you] In doing this?

Impartial trials we do hope to see And may no Bribes be Giv'n to set you free from Rightful Laws.

Boston Tea Party

After some officials in Boston refused completely to return 3 shiploads of taxed tea to Britain, a group of colonists boarded the ship and destroyed the Tea by throwing it in the Boston Harbor.
The Tea Party was the end of a "resistance movement" throughout British against the Tea Act ( act of the Parliament of Great Britain to expand the British East India Company's monopoly on the tea trade to all British Colonies, selling excess tea at a reduced price) which was passed in 1773 by the Parliament. Colonists said they should only be taxed by their own elected representatives.

Boston Tea Party was a key event in the growth of the American Revolution.

The Boston Massacre

The Boston Tribune: march 5, 1770.

The death of five civilians by the British troops, has concerned the Boston population. Something like this was never seen before and the attack has alarmed Boston people that declare their fellow countrymen were not armed or had no enemies.
Three civilians got killed instantly, eleven were badly injured and two of them had been reported as dead in the hospital.

According to some witnesses, this is a demonstration of what the thirst of power can do to people and how far are the military troops going to go, if people are disagree with their own interests.

"Did you see Sarah Palin at the Tea Party Convention on Saturday? Well, this is — I'm starting to love her, really. She mocked President Obama for using a teleprompter and then, someone noticed she had notes written on her hand. And she had the words 'energy,' 'budget,' with the word 'cuts' crossed off, 'tax,' and 'lift American spirits' written on her palm. It lifted my spirits, so — mission accomplished, I guess." –Jimmy Kimmel

"Well, tomorrow in Nashville, Sarah Palin will speak at the Tea Party Convention. Tickets are $550 apiece. Where are they getting this tea, Starbucks?" –Jay Leno
"The tea party nation announced last week that Sarah Palin will headline what is being called the first national tea party convention in February. It is expected to be the nation's largest ever gathering of misspelled signs." –Seth Meyers

"Some Americans did a very dumb thing today. They had tea party protests. They've been mailing tea bags to Congress to I guess express their dissatisfaction with taxes and government spending because nothing shakes a politician up like a complimentary bag of tea. 'Hey if you don't straighten up next year, crumpets, buddy.'" –Jimmy Kimmel

"A lot of protests today. Thousands of people had these tea parties, during which they protested higher taxes. But here in LA, it was called the Green Herbal Double Decaf Tea Party." –Jay Leno

"The Revenge of the Colonist"....

After protests, the colonist decided to take action in their own hands. They responded in three ways:

  • Violently: They went to the Stamp Act commissioners and grabbed their men. They would be striped down to the waist, hot tar was put or painted in their body, and later they would throw feathers or roll the victim in a pile of feathers so they would stick to the tar.

  • Intelectually: This was a resolution consisting of 7 resolves made in Virginia. their ideals were that only the Virginia General Assembly could raise or impose taxes, since their were none of their representatives in The Parliament they would not follow their acts, such as the Stamp Act.
  • Boycotts: In Fall 1774 delegates from every colony met in Philadelphia to discuss the acts imposed by the Parliament. Colonist delegates cite their opposition to The Stamp Act, The Townsen Act and The Coercive Act.

The Stamp Act

In 1765 a new act was impossed to the colonist in America. It was called the Stamp Act. It was imposed by the British Parliament and King George III. Basically it required that printed materials were printed on paper made in London and contained a revenue stamp in written materials as newspapers, magazines, documents, etc. Its purpose was to pay the cost of the Seven Year War. The king thought that the colonist were the most benefited from the war, so they should pay a portion of the cost.

It certaintly was an opposed act and colonist began to gather themselves against this. British exportations were also threatened by this act. The Stamp Act Comitee as well as the colonist protested and preassured the British Parliament to abolish the Stamp Act. Eventually it was eliminated in March 18, 1766.

American Revolution

In this blog we are going to explain in an easier way about the American Revolution. Our purposes are to explain students in a practical and appealing way about each little detail that might seem difficult to understand and for students to know the changes or situations in which USA had to go through to be what is now.
